Are you planning a trip to fabulous Las Vegas? Whether this is your first time or 100th time to Sin City, learn how to buy cannabis when visiting Vegas in 2022.

Federal and local marijuana laws change annually, so prepare or refresh yourself on what guidelines you need to follow.

How to Buy Cannabis When Visiting Vegas

Locals and visitors must follow several laws when purchasing and possessing marijuana in Nevada.

Possessing Marijuana in Las Vegas

  • Be over the age of 21.
  • Possess a maximum of an ounce of flower for personal use.
  • Possess a maximum of 3.5 grams of concentrate or “hash.”

If you are over 21, you have no limits in Las Vegas regarding the possession of marijuana paraphernalia,  such as bongs, pipes, or vape pens. If you are 18 years of age and have a valid marijuana card, you can also buy cannabis when visiting Vegas.

Purchasing Marijuana for Medical Use

If you are an out-of-state patient and have a medical marijuana card from your home state, you can buy marijuana in Nevada. (Your home state also has to support physicians advising patients to use marijuana to help their symptoms.)

Your home state must have a database that Nevada authorities can use to check the validity of your medical marijuana card. The Nevada limit for possession of medical marijuana is 2.5 ounces.

Smoking Cannabis in Vegas

Cannabis is still an illegal substance at the federal level. Even though it is legal to possess marijuana in Las Vegas, you are not allowed to smoke it in public or in a vehicle. It is also illegal for you to smoke cannabis on federal land.

You risk a fine or even jail time if you are caught.

Unfortunately, you can’t smoke marijuana in your hotel room, either. You are only allowed to smoke in private residences in Las Vegas, and hotels do not count as such.

Vegas is home to some cannabis-friendly lounges and lodges, but you should verify with the staff before booking your stay.

Can You Smoke Cannabis in Casinos?

Because of federal and state restrictions, casinos do not permit guests to smoke marijuana on the properties. Casinos risk losing their licenses if marijuana consumption is allowed on casino grounds.

As gambling is regulated at the state level, these restrictions may soften in the future. At present, however, marijuana consumption violations can result in a misdemeanor with a punishment of a $600 fine.

Driving and Cannabis

You cannot drive while under the influence of marijuana. You can legally transport cannabis in your car, but it must be in a sealed, air-tight container out of reach of the driver and passengers. It is wise to transport cannabis in your trunk or glove compartment after purchasing it at a dispensary.

It is illegal to transport cannabis across state lines. Even if marijuana is legal in the state you are traveling to, transporting any amount across state lines is a felony offense.

Can You Give Marijuana as a Gift?

You can gift cannabis to a friend. You can give someone half an ounce of cannabis or up to a full ounce of flower. Your friend, however, cannot legally give you any money for the gift. Since you are not a registered dispenser, it is illegal to enter a sales transaction by accepting any kind of payment for marijuana.
